Overview

Interoute's Internet Barometer shows real-time statistics on Internet attacks worldwide and provides information on the source of those attacks.

The source of attacks indicates potentially hostile organizations and networks. So, the Barometer identifies whether the perpetrator is a "known Bad Guy"; a spoofer who is trying to hide his or her identity by using different IP addresses; or an unknown attacker.

We provide free access to the Internet Barometer. This is our contribution to the IT Security Community - because we all have to work together to reduce risks. It's also our way of showing that the Security Industry is about more than fear, uncertainty and doubt. It's also about positive action and collaboration.

While there are other applications that share some of this data, they are either subscription only or lacking the depth of information available on this site.

The Internet Barometer is only possible because of the integral role Interoute plays in the Internet. Interoute owns and manages Europe's largest voice and data network; it spans 24 countries and 57,000kms of lit fibre, connecting Europe to North America, the Middle East and Africa. The underlying data used by the Barometer is continually updated with information collected by Interoute's high performance, custom-built sensors located at strategic points along the core network. This network is also the core of the Internet in Europe.

How to use it

We have kept the Barometer's screens simple, but they provide a wealth of information.

If you are a network engineer or security officer with an on-going problem, the Barometer can help get you through the latest attack. From any attack screen, you can find links to full attack descriptions, so you can understand and resolve the situation. The Barometer can even help by providing details of the Internet addresses that most frequently launch these attacks.

The definition of what constitutes a High Medium or Low attack is based on the estimated impact of an attack by renowned industry sources.

On the map one signature equates to one attack; DDOS attacks are not included in the map statistics.

If you are an ISP and would like to include one of our sensors on your own network, or you have a question about the Barometer or suggestions on how to improve it, please contact us at Interoute.PSSCgrp@interoute.com.

Attack Listing

In the map and table below is a summary of the attacks occurring throughout the world, listed by countries receiving the attacks. Countries are separated into tables according to the geographic region to which they belong.

The final table, titled "Other", includes places outside these regions - e.g., Antarctica - or origins of attack that are not detectable because they originate in Dark Space; the part of the Internet's routable address space that is currently unused.
